Overview
Bariloche is the ski bum capital of Argentina and the major gateway into Patagonia. Official it’s San Carlos de Bariloche, but every one knows it as just Bariloche. Other then the skiing, Bariloche is best known for its fine chocolate. The city is a mix of a classic European alpine town and a modern South American city. It’s located right on the shore of the massive lake Nahuel Huapi with the resort of Catedral Alta Patagonia located about a half hour bus trip from downtown.

Terrain
Catedral Alta Patagonia is on par with almost any North American or European ski resort. Slopes range from beginner to expert with wide open bowls, cliff drops and tight tree. Long runs down open bowls with fantastic views make Catedral very popular with Argentinean skiers. Views and untracked tress is where Catedral shines brightest but if you are the type that loves carving up groomers Catedral is Not for you. Though they attempt to groom long runs from top to bottom the quality of groomed is OK at best.
Transportation
All major Chilean and Argentinian cities have buses running to Bariloche. There are also flights from Santiago, Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
One major drawback to skiing in Bariloche is that the bulk of the lodging is located in town which is about 30 minutes from the ski resort. There is a public bus that runs throughout the day but lines for the bus can be up to an an hour and a half long.
