Pucon, Chile

Pucon is quite an interesting place. It looks very similar to the green mountains of Vermont, however instead of rolling green hills there are equally sized volcanic cones. The ski resort is located right on a smoking volcano, which has been know to kick up huge perfect smoke rings.

Pucon trail map

Pucon is a low pace Chilean resort town with small ski resort located a few miles from the towns small commercial row. Pucon’s bread and butter is resorting Chileans so there are loads of hostels, cabins and budget hotels. For more upscale lodging there are a number of hotel complexes outside of town. Downtown Pucon consist of a single strip of shops where there is a supermarket, a few restaurants, a gear shop or two and loads of adventure tour companies which organize ski rentals and shuttles up to the ski resort. Shuttles run from 10-15 dollars but don’t count on any sort of quality ski gear for rent.

Yeah, I skied Pocon back in 2002 and really did not think much of it. There are much better places to ski in South America like Las Lenas which is the SHIT.

There is just nothing that EXTREME at Pucon and the weather is often shit. But it is pretty cool skiing on a smoking volcano.
Do yourself a favor and visit in the summer when Pucon really shines.

Went there some time ago, and had a great time! Something I recommend is to take a Spanish Class when you get there, I went to http://www.Skiandlearnspanish.com
