Once you have spent some time skiing in South America you realize that ski gear must be on the slow boat down south. Most skiers on the hill are skiing on mid-range gear from five to ten years ago. New gear is rear sight and the few people I have seen with “Fly” gear have been Americans, Europeans or South Americans who spend there summers skiing up north. If you are planing on renting gear don’t be surprised if your skis are from the late 90’s but if you do some hunting around you can find skis with some cut to them and boots that have four buckles.

So true. People always ask me about my gear when Im down in SA. You can find some ok rental gear at places like Portilo and Las Lenas but the bulk of the stuff is crap!
