Today I dislocated my shoulder skiing for the third time in six months. Not a big deal but I needed to ski down to the clinic to have it put back in. Cost 100,000 Chilean pesos – that’s about 200 US dollars – Ouch.
There is something about skiing that keeps us all coming back day after day, year after year despite real consequences. I almost passed out from pain just a few hours ago but there is no question that I will back skiing in a day or two. Maybe it’s the fact that I am 24 years old and cant see the bigger picture of life. Maybe it is because skiing is one of the few things I’m good at. I don’t know. But what I do know is that I love skiing. I love the feeling of going super fast with nothing but some sticks attached to my feet. I love getting up in the morning knowing that I am going to spend the day outside playing in the mountains. I love the people I have meet and the places that I have seen skiing. Maybe one day this will all come to an end. I will be forced into the “real world” and all that will remain are a faint memory of powder days and a sore, tired, old body. I don’t know, but I hope not. This thing they call skiing is way too much fun.
(Probable just the meds talking)
P.S. Having surgery within the year.
